Not all Rose Types are suitable for seaside gardening. Seaside gardeners don't have to do without growing rose bushes. Success with growing roses near the sea is a matter of choosing suitable rose varieties. Some easy to grow roses deal very well with wind and salt spray and on top of that need very little maintenance!

Most every gardener I know has some rose varieties growing in their gardens. People love them for the beautiful colorful flowers during the summer months. An added bonus is the lovely scent of some rose types.
As a seaside gardener you don't have to do without roses either. Some roses are very tolerant of wind, salt air and poor soils and thrive in the most exposed gardens. It is just a matter of choosing the right rose varieties for a seaside garden!
These are easy to grow roses like Rosa rugosa and the rugosa hybrids or for example the Flower Carpet Roses. They are very healthy and disease resistant and need very little care.
Other roses like Floribundas, Hybrid Teas or Patio roses can be grown in coastal gardens if you have a place for them that is reasonably sheltered from wind. These rose varieties though need more care, pruning and somtimes spraying against blackspot and mildew.
